Transfer StudentsPerhaps you're a student who has some previous experience with college and would like to transfer to a new institution. Transfers come in many forms and can take place at various times during a student's academic career. Transferring from one institution to another is a very individual process and there are no hard and fast rules on admissions or transferring credits. As soon as you decide to transfer, contact the school to which you are transferring and discuss that institution's specific admissions requirements and policies regarding transferring credits. In general, we encourage you to follow these steps when you are planning to transfer: Step #1 - ResearchYou'll need to find information on the school you are interested in attending such as their academic calendar, application deadlines, admission requirements, financial aid options, etc. Much of this information is available in the GA Colleges section of this website. We also recommend that you reach out to an Admissions Counselor at the school(s) to which you are interested in transferring. An advisor can assist you with your academic planning and answer any questions or concerns you have about transferring. Step #2 - PlanOnce you have selected the school you wish to transfer to, you will need to start planning the transfer process. This can include determining which of your classes will transfer to the new institution and how these courses can be used to fulfill the requirements for your selected program.
Additionally, you need to determine if there are any other requirements for admission such as interim transcripts or test scores. Step #3 - ExecuteNow you have researched and planned and you are ready to make your transfer happen. Submit your application for admission along with any required supporting documents in enough time to be received by the institution's deadline. Be sure to arrange with your previous school(s) to have your official transcripts sent with the appropriate transfer certifications documented. You are responsible, so never assume that something you requested has happened. Follow up with your new school to ensure they received all the documents that you or your previous school has sent. If you are using financial aid to help you pay for your education, you should meet with a representative in the Financial Aid Office of your new school to determine how to transfer your financial aid. It's important to remember that you are the only one responsible for ensuring that your transfer is successful, so make sure to do all your homework and meet all the deadlines. |
