Scholarship for Engineering Education

The Scholarship for Engineering Education program is targeted to Georgia residents who are engineering students at Mercer University (Macon campus). The purpose of the program is to attract undergraduates into the engineering profession by providing financial assistance and to provide qualified engineers for the State of Georgia. In return for the scholarship loan, students agree to work for one year for a reduction in balance of $3,000 after graduation in an engineering-related field in Georgia. Loans may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, and any other part of the student's cost of attendance.

Value

  • $3,500 per academic year to a maximum of $17,500.

  • If a student fails to complete service repayment the student is required to repay in cash installments with interest accruing daily of a fixed interest rate of 10.0%.

  • Principal deferments options for eligible borrowers.

  • No Applications fees.

  • No Origination fees.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a legal resident of Georgia for at least 12 months immediately preceding the date of registration for the school term for which this scholarship is being requested.

  • Be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien who meets the definition of an eligible non-citizen under Federal Title IV requirements.

  • Not yet have obtained a baccalaureate degree.

  • Be certified by the College of Engineering certification official to be fully admitted into an approved engineering program leading to a baccalaureate degree.

  • Be enrolled full-time at a private accredited engineering university in Georgia.

  • If you are a sophomore, junior, senior, have earned a minimum overall grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale (including all courses taken after high school).

  • Agree to work in an engineering-related field in Georgia after graduation with an engineering degree.

  • Not owe a refund on a grant or scholarship previously received under any State of Georgia or Federal program for attendance at any postsecondary educational institution;

  • Not be in default on a loan previously obtained under any State of Georgia or Federal program for attendance at any postsecondary educational institution.

Loan Forgiveness

In return for the scholarship loan, students agree to work for one year for a reduction in balance of $3,000 after graduation in an engineering-related field in Georgia.

Application Procedure

Complete Section A and forward any attachments and completed application to the College of Engineering Certification Official to complete Section B. Then the College of Engineering will forward the application to the Financial Aid Office to have Section C completed and forwarded to GSFC for approval and processing.

Loan Disbursements

Once the application process has been reviewed and approved, GSFC mails students an Award Letter advising them of each disbursement for the academic year. After the student signs and returns the Award Letter, GSFC sets up all disbursements to be sent to the school 14 days prior to the beginning of each term.
