Tax-Exempt Organization

The Stafford/Direct Loan that you are seeking to have deferred must have been disbursed prior to July 1, 1993; PLUS Loan borrowers must have been disbursed before August 15, 1983. Click here to check to see when your loan(s) was disbursed.

Additional eligibility requirements are that you must have agreed to serve as a volunteer on a full-time basis for at least one year. For the Tax-Exempt Organization deferment, the organization must be exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3)of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and provide service to low-income persons and their communities to assist them in eliminating poverty and poverty-related human, social, and environmental conditions.
