Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant Program

Non-Need Based Grant

Purpose

To encourage Georgia residents to attend eligible private colleges in Georgia by providing grant assistance. To also assist Georgia residents living near the state border attending out-of-state four-year public colleges within 50 miles of their home.

Eligibility

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time student at an eligible private college or university in Georgia; or be a college level Junior or Senior enrolled full-time in an eligible four-year public college outside of Georgia that is within 50 miles of the student's home and with no four-year public college located in Georgia within 50 miles of the student's home;
  2. Be an undergraduate student in a program of study leading to a college degree;
  3. Be a legal resident of Georgia;
  4. Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status;
  5. Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;
  6. Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990;
  7. Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program;
  8. Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college;
  9. Must not have received TEG payment for more than 127 semester/190 quarter hours.

Value

Recipients receive an award of $366 per quarter or $550 per semester and can receive payment for up to four quarters or three semesters per year. (Budgeted each year by the Georgia Legislature. The amount of the award may change.)

Application Procedure

Students can apply online or by using the printable paper TEG application. Applicants attending out-of-state colleges must also complete an affidavit to verify the 50 miles distance requirements. For more information or to apply now, click here.
