ABOUT THE PROGRAM
According to the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, "learning disabilities" is a "general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities." A learning disability is presumably due to central nervous system dysfunction, and is not primarily due to other handicapping conditions, environmental, or cultural influences. It is not a form of mental retardation, or an emotional disorder.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR LD STUDENTS
Requirements that may be waived for LD students: Students with sensory loss, medical disability, mobility impairment, leanring disability, head injury, ADD, or psychological disabilities that substantially interfere with functioning may be eligible. Documentation regarding the diagnosis of Learning Disability, ADD, and head injury must be reviewed and approved by the Regents' Center for Learning Disabilities. Obtaining documentation of the disability and arranging accommodations takes time, so students are urged to contact the office of disability services in the division of student affairs as soon as they are accepted for admission.
